"I don’t sing because I’m happy...... I’m happy because I sing.” William James
Milltown Singers in 2022
Like all choirs we are at last back together singing!
But we didn't waste 2020 and 2021; our brilliant musical director, Mike Horth taught us a long list of new songs on Zoom and during the summer of 2020 many of us recorded from our own living rooms a relaxed version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow and in December 2020 we recorded Somewhere in My Memory from Home Alone; click on the link above to hear us. Remember this was recorded by people sitting in their own bedrooms, broom cupboards etc ...anywhere that could be sound insulated with duvet's and pillows and preferably pet free! Some like to join in!
So, it's now May 2022 and we are mostly back together singing face to face. We are so pleased to be back on track with our 2022 programme which commenced with a concert in April. Great fun all round.
In May we will record three songs at Woodworm Studio in Barford St Michael and in August we will run a day long workshop which is open to all comers, not just members of the choir.
Our 2021 Christmas concert (which actually took place in April 2022) raised over £1000 for the DEC Ukraine fund and we are pleased to increase that to £2000 from the choir funds.
About us
Milltown Singers is a mixed ability singing group which started out at The Mill in Banbury around 1998.
We meet between 8.00 pm to 9.30 pm each Thursday in term time at:
The Chasewell Community Centre
Avocet Way
Cherwell Heights
Banbury
OX16 9YA
Our aim is to provide a weekly session of singing for people who may or may not be able to read music, but who like to learn and sing music from different genres, without pressure and in a relaxed atmosphere.
Our Musical Director
Over the years the choir has gained hugely in popularity and today we have over 120 members. We are extremely lucky to have our fantastic musical director, Mike Horth who took over Miltown Singers in 2012. Mike supplies all our backing tracks and rehearsal tracks so that we can rehearse and learn in our own time at home. Take a look at the 'About' page to learn more about Mike.
Milltown events
We have concerts in the summer and at Christmas and each summer we record three songs at Woodworm Studios. In August each year we also run a very popular day long workshop which is open to all comers.
